How I'm Getting—And Staying—Organized For The Year Ahead As Someone With ADHD

I never know how to spend the Monday after Labor Day. Most of me wants to lay on the Beach and use it as an excuse to stretch summer just one more day. But there’s a small part of me that always wants to sprint back to the city on Sunday night so that I can wake up on Monday with a head start on the school year ahead (… other adults still think like this too, right?). This year, the latter won out—I’m writing this from my couch waiting for delivery from the sushi place we like in the West Village.

After the few months I’ve had, it makes sense that I was ready to call it quits on a summer that—as I’ve already told you—was a roller coaster of ups and downs. The COVID I mentioned the last time I wrote has also had some lingering effects (I’m exhausted, and my brain definitely still isn’t working quite right), so it seemed for the best that I get home and take a little me time before a few crazy weeks ahead.

Just to give you a sneak peek at what’s coming (… and to let you know why these newsletters will be coming regularly, but sporadically, for now): First, I head to Vegas on a “work trip” to see Shania Twain, then to Maine for a best friend’s bachelorette party, then to the Catskills for a different best friend’s wedding. There’s also a Beautyfor sale on September 22nd (get your tickets here!), and the first two weeks of October have me going from Mexico to Japan to best friend #1’s wedding before finishing off the month back in

I’m also… getting married in 131 days, and have officially entered the planning phase where I have to make a lot of decisions that a lot of people have opinions on. It’s overwhelming!

In order to keep my head above water through the rest of this year, prioritizing my mental health has become the number one most important thing to me—and that means learning to manage my stress levels, which I wrote about last week.

Part of that for me, as someone with ADHD, means getting organized.
